| Previous Posts;Arthur Arthur looked up at the sky himself and was not as sure about the weather as Gilbert was. He shrugged. “If you say so… Good night, Gilbert.” He slipped passed the tent flaps and made himself comfortable inside, taking off his trainer equipment and backpack and storing them in a corner of the tent. He used the privacy the tent offered to change his clothes. His shirt was rather damp and he preferred not to sleep in the clothes he had been traveling in all day if he could help it. Now in a t-shirt and sleep shorts, Arthur settled in sleeping back and wrapped it around himself. He rather liked the coziness the tent offered and was dozing within minutes, with the firelight flickering against the tent walls. Gilbert Once Arthur was out of sight Gilbert stripped off his shirt and kicked his shoes off, letting Arcanine out. The canine wandered around the camp, carefully avoiding Arthur's tent, then settled down near Gilbert's sleeping bag. Gilbert slid into it, shifting to rest his head against the pokemon's warm fur, and fell asleep quickly, the feel of warmth and familiarity making it easier then it likely shoulder have been.
Asleep, Gilbert had no way of seeing the clouds as they gathered, and only batted Herdier away when the pokemon tried to like his face in warning. It wasn't until Arcanine got up and moved under the shelter of a tree that Gilbert woke. The water started light but grew heavy quickly. Letting out a lout curse, Gilbert called his pokemon back, and tried to get his stuff together and out of water, moving to stand under one of the trees himself, seething to himself, his gaze sliding over to Arthur's tent, wondering if he should see if the other would let him in or not. Arthur He did not really notice the rain as it began. It fell lightly against the tent, making a soft patter-patter that was actually rather soothing as Arthur slept. It grew progressively louder though, until it was pelting against the thin walls. He woke and blinked, not really able to see much for the fire had been the only source of light and that was long gone. It took him a moment to remember where he was and realize what was going on.
Well, he had been right to set up a tent, that was for sure. He unzipped the tent flaps and peered outside into what was now a storm. He did not see Gilbert at first and looked around for him, wondering if he had made a run for it when the rain started. At last he saw him, along the edge of the trees. Which was really not safe at all. Though Arthur did not much like the idea of ruining the dry warmth of his tent by sheltering the wet trainer, he couldn’t very well leave him out there to get drenched either. He motioned to Gilbert, beckoning him towards the tent. Gilbert Gilbert couldn't help feeling relieved that Arthur looked out and motioned for him to come join him. He slung his bag over his shoulder and rushed towards the tent, trying to ignore the chill already settling in his limbs as he moved. He didn't waste anytime getting inside, and pulled his legs up to try and take up as little room as possible. He ran his hands through his wet hair, "Guess I shoulda put up the tent after all. Es tut mir leid..." |

| Arthur shoved himself over to one side of the tent to make room for Gilbert as he dove into the tent. Arthur was quick to zip the tent flaps back up to keep any more rain from getting inside, but since Gilbert appeared to be soaked to the bone, that almost seemed pointless. "Yes, you probably should have," he grumbled in response. Arthur sighed, lamenting the loss of the dry comfort of his tent, and searched through his bag. Luckily, as a water trainer, he had long learned to keep a towel on hand, which he retrieved and handed to Gilbert. "Here. Dry yourself off." He tried not to wrinkle his nose at the wet dog odor coming off of Gilbert - even though it was dark to do so would be rude.
Since he was awake anyway and this was the first time they had been in an environment his pokemon were suited to since they had begun traveling, Arthur figured he should probably let them enjoy it. While Gilbert dried, Arthur unzipped the tent just enough to let Vaporeon, Croconaw and Octillery out of their pokeballs. His other pokemon would just have to wait until they came to a body of water or at least some more room to roam. "Go on you guys, go enjoy the weather." |

| Trying not to be bothered by Arthur's clear disapproval of Gilbert's not being ready, Gilbert took the offered towel with a soft, “Thanks,” and began to dry himself off. He shoved his bag into the corner of the tent, and kept his eyes up at Arthur let his own pokemon out. The tent was warm, and mostly still dry, but rather cramped. Even with Arthur laid out, and himself huddled, he could feel the heat coming off the other trainer's body. Which, was actually rather nice, since he was shivering. Gilbert had never dealt with the cold well, and now was no different. At least it was just rain, he told himself.
“Thanks, for letting me in...” He offered, half heartedly. He eyed outside the tent unenthusiastically. Gilbert's pokemon were mostly fire types, the water didn't get along with them, and really, after Emolga's attack on Arthur and Croconaw, Gilbert figured he really owed the other. “Guess I owe you one.” |

| The tent was really not made for two and Arthur could tell it was going to be a long night with the both of them crammed in there. But he supposed he was just going to have to make the best of a bad situation and try to make it as tolerable as possible. He shoved his things further into the corner to make more room and shifted to get at the sleeping bag beneath him. "Yeah, you do... But I guess we can work that out later. We may be on the road for a while, so I'm sure an opportunity will crop up. Move over just a bit." When Gilbert did, Arthur managed to unzip his sleeping bag all the way and roll it out flat on the tent floor, giving enough room for both of them to lay upon. Arthur was nothing if not a gracious host.
He lay down, pushed to one side of the tent and shifting himself to try and find a comfortable position again. He could hear his pokemon through the storm, running and splashing about and enjoying themselves from the sound of things. He turned and glanced towards Gilbert, who's whiteness made him stand out particularly, even in the dark. Seeing him shirtless, the trainer was even paler than Arthur would have guessed. |

| He couldn't say he was particularly pleased that Arthur was all to ready to agree with him. It was always hard to travel with people, and Gilbert had a big problem with owing people things. He made a note to pay Arthur back ASAP, to avoid letting the Water Pokemon Trainer calling in that favour at an unsavory time, as people tended to do with those sorts of things. He moved as Arthur asked him too, and gave a wide eyed stare as the other made room for him on top of the sleeping bag. He couldn't really turn this one down, the ground was hard and the bag was at least a little bit of cushioning on top of it. He laid down on the offered space, and stretch just a little, pressing himself against the opposite side of the tent, putting as much space as was possible between them. It wasn't much, but it was something.
With the towel still wrapped around him, Gilbert used his arms as a pillow to rest his head on, and closed his eyes. He could feel Arthur's gaze on him, and tried hard not to feel subconscious about it. His personality usually made people stare at him alone, he was loud and obnoxious, and cocky as all hell, so he wasn't surprised when people stared at him for those things. He didn't like it much when they stared at him for his looks though. As a breeder, Gilbert knew how to spot defects, and knew his own too well. If he'd been a pokemon, he would have been the least sought after of the litter due to his coloring. It would have marked him as inferior. He didn't like being reminded of that.
“So, where all do you plan to look for your brother? The cities are pretty hard to track people in, did you have any places in particular you think he'd have gone?”
This felt like a safe subject, and would hopefully draw attention away from looking at each other. Unconsciously, Gilbert shifted the towel, now damp, so that it covered his shoulders and part of his head, kept him partially hidden from sight. |

| Realizing that he had been looking, Arthur let his gaze wander away, shifting to lie down on his stomach with his arms below his head for cushion. Instead he stared towards the tent door, watching the occasional lightning illuminate it. He pondered the question for a moment and tucked his arms tighter under himself, missing the warmth he'd had when he'd had the sleeping bag all to himself. "Peter's an all or nothing sort. If he went so far as to run away, he's not going to mess around. He'll probably be trying to get out of the region all together. There's a train station in Saffron City he may try to use. If he doesn't turn up there, then the coast will be the next option. He did grow up in a water gym, so he might be more partial to traveling by ship. But then he might have decided to reject us all together and go by train. It's hard to tell with him sometimes. He's such a little git. Not prepared to be on his own at all."
Arthur huffed and rolled over to face the tent wall now, not really caring for Peter being the subject of conversation, even if he was the whole reason for them both being out here in the fist place. The water trainer was still quite bitter about having to be out on this journey on his little brother's account. |

| Gilbert let out a soft chuckle, wondering if he'd ever sounded so annoyed at his own younger brother. Likely, but not for the same reason. There was tension between Arthur and his brother that Gilbert didn't think was between himself and his own bruder. But perhaps it was just that he didn't sense it. He could tell it was time to change the subject. Still wide awake from the rain, Gilbert didn't have all that much interest in trying to sleep now. He shifted a little, turning his head to stare at Arthur's back, letting his gaze sweep from the Blonde's messy hair to where his legs were bare and back up again, a flash of lightening illuminating the grumpy boy a bit.
“You travelled before settling as a gym leader, ja?” He could remember Arthur mentioning it, “Just here in Kanto? You said you didn't have all your badges, ever think of going und getting them?”
This seemed like a much safer topic then the one they'd been discussing. He let his gaze drift away, watching the tent again, trying to ignore the sound of the rain. |

| He almost thought he could feel the other's eyes upon him, but he dismissed it, thinking it was his imagination. And even it wasn't so what? They were in a small tent and there were not a whole lot of places to look.
He shrugged at the other trainer's line of questioning. "I got five of the Kanto badges while I was traveling around the region. I'm missing Vermillion, Veridian, and my own. I needed a bit more training before tackling the other gyms, but it was time to come home. I was only required to get badges from three rival gyms to qualify, so I still went above and beyond. I'm not setting out for the League, so there doesn't seem to be much point to going for the remaining gyms. Plus getting the cascade badge would be a huge ordeal. Not only would I have to beat one of my brothers, but even if I won, people would just say that it wasn't a fair match because it was between brothers... Of course, they don't know my brothers." He sighed. "I would have to renounce my position at the gym and then issue a formal challenge to earn the badge. It's just... not worth it." |

| Gilbert gave a short nod, though he knew the other couldn't see it. It made sense, as a gym leader, Arthur had no need for the badges. But Gilbert, who strived to collect all the badges, even if he rarely took part in the actual main competitions, it was hard to understand just not caring. In his mind, a good trainer strove to collect all the badges and prove they could- but then most 'good' trainers would also be concerned about the main league battles. Gilbert had only taken part in two League Competitions, and he didn't see himself lingering in Kanto long enough to do so here. He had to go home, and then he planned to eventually leave Hoenn again to tackle the Orange Islands League.
“What about the other ones you didn't get? Ever thought of trying to get those ones?” He shifted to lay on his back, arms folded behind his head, eyes locked on the darkness above him. Another flash of lightening. He grinned a little, and tilted his head a bit to lock his eyes on Arthur for a second. “Or is that too hard to do with such a one sided team?”
It was a mean jab, but his voice was teasing, not meant to actually offend. Even Gilbert knew how capable a specialist could be of taking on their weaknesses. Sure, his pokemon had failed at the Cerulean City Gym, but they would manage next time, he was sure. Just needed a bit more practice, that was all. |

| Arthur scoffed and kind of wished Croconaw were around to give a good watergun blast to someone who deserved it for once. Gilbert was already pretty wet after all, it would hardly make much difference except to make himself feel better. His tone was defensive as he spoke. "It would be difficult but not impossible. Viridian is high level but I generally have the type advantage. Whereas Vermillion does have the type advantage with all that git's electric types. But with enough training, I could beat him. Besides, Gilbert..." Arthur turned to fix his eyes on the other, his brows slightly narrowed in annoyance. "The point of a pokemon journey for a gym leader is to test one's strengths with the added challenge of using a single type. It's supposed to be more difficult than for a more diverse trainer. It shows commitment to the gym and one's ability to implement strategy to overcome the odds." He spouted the words off almost word for word as he had heard them years before.
"And don't get too cocky. You have your own trend going with all your canine types. That's limiting, too, you know." |

| He couldn't help the bark of laughter he gave. Arthur had taken his joke a bit too seriously, but that was fine. The speech he gave about using a single type seemed a bit to practised for Gilbert's taste. As if he'd rehearsed it. The albino rolled onto his side, facing Arthur this time, and leaned slightly closer. There wasn't much space between them anyway, so he didn't have far to go if he wanted to be in the blond's face. Any closer and it was kissing range, which was not quite something Gilbert wanted- he had to admit that the blond was attractive, but that could lead to a world of awkward he wasn't certain of yet.
“Ja, I do. They do tend to follow a pattern in types, but at least I tried. Und will try again.” He was not leaving Kanto until he had that Cerulean City gym, no way no how. “It was a joke however, so sensitive, Arthur.”
He flashed a grin, “Tell me something, Arthur, what do you do locked up in your city when you're not training? You asked me earlier, if I get tired of travelling... do you get bored of staying in one place?” |

| He frowned at the number of personal questions that Gilbert seemed keen to ask all of a sudden. Was this was close quarters did to people? Made them feel a need to fill the silence? Arthur, in all honesty, did not have that many acquaintances outside of his family. He knew the other gym leaders, some better than others. And there were a few people in town that he could join at a tea house here and there. And of course, the passing trainers and such. But that was it. His was an old family and they had their set social circles. None of which had ever prepared Arthur for such a barrage of questions by someone he barely knew.
But then.... he supposed it wouldn't kill him to answer.
"Training takes up a lot of my time," he replied, lowering his head to rest it against his arm. "Training and helping with the gym and occasionally with the new eevees, if we have some. I'll read, for research and for fun. But there's not a lot of time for much else. I have a set routine at home. It's the best place for me. I'm happy there." This was not entirely true, though. Arthur and his brothers were notorious for not getting along. His mother had long given up on trying to force it. And there were times when Arthur did miss being out in the open. Particularly near the sea. Despite living at a water gym, the only natural water source nearby was the river. It was nice, but just not the same as the ocean. That he did miss. But such was life. |

| Gilbert was talkative. He always had been, he hated silence, so even when he was travelling alone, it wasn't uncommon for him to fill the silence by constantly talking to his pokemon. It helped him keep on track most of the time, since his attention had a habit of slipping and he could forget what he was doing rather easily. He wasn't particularly pleased by Arthur's answer.
Gilbert was quickly finding that most of Arthur's answers were not very good. Not that he didn't seem to believe, so much as... they felt force fed. They felt more bland, and automatic then anything else. As the son of a very important pokemon breeder, who was supposedly destined to take on that post, Gilbert knew what it was like to have expectations thrust onto him. To have his life charted out before him, and what it was like to break free from that.
He'd left his home in a similar manner that Arthur's younger brother had. Just up and run away- though Gilbert had registered, and when his father had managed to track him down and drag him back, he still fought at every turn. His first year as a trainer had been filled with a lot of running away and being pulled back home. By the time Gilbert had gotten his last badge in Hoenn, his father had finally given up. He was free from that family obligation.
Arthur was tied down, and Gilbert got the feel that he was content to be that way. He couldn't wrap his mind around it, but it made him a bit uncomfortable to think about it. Rolling back onto his back, Gilbert glared at the roof of the tent. “You're an odd person, Arthur.”
It was all he could bring himself to say. He wasn't sure how else to say it without coming off as rude and getting himself kicked out of the tent. So he left it at that, and wondered... |

| It seemed that Gilbert only wanted to talk about subjects that made Arthur less than comfortable. First about his brother, then questioning the strict use of water pokemon, and now making it out that Arthur was strange for not traveling all over the globe. It was almost enough for the water trainer to want to boot Gilbert out into the rain out of sheer annoyance.
"I am not an odd person!" he snapped defensively, glaring at the other. "Loads of people stay close to home. Not every trainer has to be an obsessive badge collecting globe hopper like yourself, you know. Or do you give this line to every gym leader that you come across?"
He huffed and turned to face the tent wall again. The question had been rhetorical and he did not really want to wait for an answer, so he was quite ready to end the conversation. He didn't like Gilbert making him think about these things. He was happier when he didn't think about them. When he wasn't questioning himself and his decisions. |
