| The night was quiet as the residents of the grand Italian castle settled down into their beds for the evening. Servants and nobility alike slept peacefully. Only a few guards were posted in the towers to keep watch and protect those inside the strong stone walls as they dreamt and placed their safety trustingly in their hands and swords. Even the king was sleeping soundly despite being alone, a rare occurrence for one who loved women as much as he did, but tonight it seemed the only one who kept him company was the spirit of his one, true wife, his queen- the one who had passed on and left a hole in his heart so large that not even all the ladies of the court together could ever hope to fill it. His suffering had only been eased by the two gifts she had left behind- his young sons Lovino and Feliciano.
The princes slept in a room not far from their father’s. They had all the luxuries that could be afforded to them and one nurse each, with many more servants to wait on them if necessary. The boys had never wanted for anything. Their father was extremely protective of them and often feared for the safety of his small heirs, but the two were always well-looked after and had never come under threat before. The entire household would always see that it remained that way.
In the nursery, however, things were not as silent tonight. The eldest of the two princes, Lovino, was tossing in his sleep, rolling to the left and right as he was plagued by a bad dream. The little Italian whimpered quietly and skewed his eyes shut tighter, imagining himself being chased by a giant tomato in the fields he was never allowed to venture into without at least two servants close at hand. This time, however, he was completely alone, without even his brother to scream and run away with. The absence of Feliciano may have been the first thing that made this dream truly a nightmare. The boys were only a year apart, and Lovino had no memory of his life without his little brother in it. Even if they didn’t always get along, the two were dependent on each other, and he didn‘t feel safe whenever they were separated. In his dream, the prince reached a high, stone wall and found himself trapped, cowering in the shadow of the gigantic red abomination, a titanic wave of water rising behind it out of nowhere, when suddenly-
His eyes snapped open. Lovino was sweating, his heart beating fast as if he was still trapped in that horrible dream, but slowly, he began to calm down at the familiar sights and smells of the nursery. Just a dream. He could even see the shape of his nurse in the bed not far from where he slept. He hadn’t been loud enough to wake her up, though he easily could if he wanted to. She would hold him and comfort him, pat his back and even give him a warm drink of milk if he wanted her to, though such a thing would take a while to prepare. Lovino debated it for a while and slowly turned on his side only to notice a warm wetness beneath his thighs. Not again…
The small prince groaned and kicked the sheets off of him, frustrated and embarrassed. Seven was too old to wet the bed, dammit! He sulked and pondered what he should do. He could wake the nurse and have her change the bed sheets…but this was the second time this week he had managed to miss the chamber pot, and he wasn’t in the mood to listen to her whining and nagging when she discovered he had done it again. Maybe there was another way out of this…Lovino rolled off the side of his bed and planted his feet quietly on the floor. He covered the wet spot on his bed with his sheets and began to strip out of his nightclothes, taking the soiled undergarments and stuffing them in the chamber pot underneath his bed. Satisfied with this clever hiding place, he crept towards the wardrobe and put on a fresh set, and then, made his way over to where his brother was sleeping.
“Feli,” he hissed, giving his little brother’s shoulder a small push. “Move over a bit.”
Before the younger prince had even woken up fully, Lovino was already forcing him to make space on one side of his bed. He climbed onto the soft mattress next to him and settled himself comfortably. Usually it was the other way around, with Feliciano sneaking into his bed at night, but Lovino hoped to make it look like he had been here the whole night, sleeping innocently next to his brother and perfectly unaware of the mess that had happened in his bed while he had been out of it. He could always blame it on something else. A squirrel maybe.
Smirking slightly in victory, the small Italian prince closed his eyes and tried to go back to sleep, comforted by the warmth beside him.

| Tonight the castle was filled with a nice silence that the youngest of the two sons of the King normally didn't enjoy. Normally Feliciano loved when the castle was full of people hustling and bustling about, making noise in their day to day routines. Anything too quiet usually caused him to feel a bit unsettled. There was one time that he loved the quiet though. That was bed time.
Feliciano had been so drowsy before bed, that he didn't really actually remember falling asleep, or even much of what had happened beforehand. He got a little cranky when he was sleepy after a long day, which was to be expected of a child of only six years of age. The last thing that Feliciano really remembered was the feeling of his pillow against his face, and the face of the nurse as had she tucked him in for the night and wished him sweet dreams. The poor boy had been so tired that he didn't even get to give his older brother a hug goodnight. Or rather, he didn't get the chance to force one upon him. Perhaps that was one good aspect of the night for Lovino. The older of the two always seemed to grumble whenever the younger wanted to touch him for too long.
It has only taken a few minutes for Feliciano to drift off to sleep. It never really took the boy long to fall asleep whether it be night time or his body simply decided that he was due for an impromptu nap. There was nothing to worry over, the only noises in the room were that of breathing from the other humans in the room, or the wind outside the windows to the castle.
He had been having a lovely dream. The setting was outdoors in one of the fields, on a bright and beautiful spring day. It was almost a picture perfect scene from one of the many paintings that adorned the walls of the castle in which the little prince was sleeping inside back in reality. The ground was covered in various types of flowers in pretty shades of pinks and reds. Feliciano himself was sitting and seemed to be admiring the scenery, all the while sitting and making use of what nature had given him. In his hands was the start of a small crown made of the surrounding flowers. It seemed that the dream version of Feliciano also was easily distracted, as something off in the distance shimmered in the sun, catching the boy's attention and causing him to abandon the half finished crown. The field sure seemed large as he tried to make his way to the object. It felt as if he was running forever before something stopped him in his tracks rather forcefully. It was a cat, which has somehow made poor Feliciano trip flat on his face. The cat wasn't very nice. Instead of leaving him alone it wanted to jump on him and cause him to be frightened.
This was of course, around the same moment in time where Lovino was trying to get his attention and wake his younger brother from his slumber. Feliciano was tired, and wasn't really shaken awake by his brother's movements. At first, all he got in return was a little groan and wiggle from his younger brother. Very rarely did anyone try to come into bed with him, so he wasn't used to waking up in that manner. Besides, Feliciano was too distracted by his dream. That cat really wanted to squish him, which was much more distressing than his situation in real life at the moment. Unfortunately for Lovino, his brother couldn't differentiate between the two. When he felt some part of Lovino's body touch his own, it actually startled him. Feliciano thought he was shoving off a scary cat, but in reality he shoved his brother with a small squeak of fright.
"N-no kitty!" It only came out as a small whiny noise, but he was now awake and thoroughly confused. Looking around, he saw the familiar walls of the bedroom he slept in every night and the caretakers of the two boys. They were both still asleep, as his little cry of surprise hadn't been all that loud to wake them. The thing out of the ordinary though, was rather obvious and very close to him. Right in his bed, as a matter of fact. Lovino seemed to have given him a surprise visit. Confused, and still very sleepy, Feliciano shifted so he was laying on his stomach, and leaned closer to the form of his older brother to make sure this was not a strange twist to his dream. "L...Lovino? You are not a kitty!" His voice was a whisper, not wanting to wake the adults in the room. Though he was surprised, he did like sleeping with his brother so he wasn't lonely. If the nurses woke up they would probably separate them and that wouldn't help him get back to sleep. "Why are you in my bed?"

| The older Italian grunted angrily at the other’s attempt to shove him away, but he pushed back stubbornly and forced himself into the spot next to the younger prince, which was still warm from his brother’s body. Lovino pushed and pulled at the covers until he was comfortable, setting into Feliciano’s bed quietly and pulling the covers over both of their heads. Feliciano was whispering to him now, being noisy as always even in his hushed tone. Lovino frowned, reaching out to cover his brother’s mouth and putting a finger up to his own lips as he hissed back at him.
“Shh, quiet, Feli...Listen, this is important,” he said, seriousness etched into his tiny features. “There’s a monster out there. No, don’t freak out, dammit. It’s small…but it’s mean. It tried to get me in my bed, so I had to sneak out of there and come to yours.”
He pressed himself close to his brother’s side, still covering his mouth to make sure the younger boy didn’t scream or make any other loud sounds in fright that might wake their caretakers. He should have probably thought twice before scaring his brother, but maybe his fear would keep him quiet. If the nurses woke up, Lovino’s cover would be blown.
“I think the monster will go away,” he whispered reassuringly, “but we have to be quiet. It eats you if you’re too loud. If we’re quiet all night, it’ll go away in the morning, though…So don’t make any noise, okay?”
He waited until he was sure his brother wasn’t going to ignore his warning and let his hand slip off the other’s mouth. The nurses were thankfully still asleep, and Lovino hoped they would stay that way. The young prince nudged his brother until there was enough space for his head on the large pillow and closed his eyes, sighing. As long as Feliciano didn’t smother him in his sleep, this shouldn’t be so bad.

| Feliciano didn't have much say in the matter as he was being shoved over in his own bed. This belonged to him, how rude! Lovino was a bit bigger than him at this age, so he had an unfair advantage in being able to roll him over like that. Or...that is what he told himself. Being put under the covers made him feel all warm, but he couldn't bring himself to argue when Lovino was looking at him like that. He also was literally unable to argue, seeing as he now had his mouth covered which caused him to squirm. At the word 'important', Feliciano's eyes widened a bit. Mixed with his big brother's expression, it had to be something he was actually supposed to listen to. When Lovino was done speaking though, he was pretty sure he would have rather just covered his ears.
It was a smart decision for Lovino to cover his younger brother's mouth, or surely some sort of scared noise and rambles of panic would have overtaken the youngest Vargas. A monster in their room! How frightening! The whole time, fear was evident in his face. Now he was suddenly happy for their shield of blankets covering the two boys, no matter how stuffy it was in there with both of them breathing. After all, everyone knew that monsters couldn't do bad things to children hiding under covers for protection. No matter how reassuring the end of the explanation from his brother was supposed to be, it didn't work. Feliciano was a very gullible little boy, not to mention a huge scaredy cat. When told not to make noise, he nodded very slowly until Lovino dropped away his hand. He could feel himself getting teary eyed and wanting to cry.
The story of the horrible monster that was lurking out there clouded his mind, and he didn't have the sense to fight for more room on the bed because he was so preoccupied. While Lovino might have now forgotten it and was trying to rest, it wasn't the case with Feliciano. Usually he could fall asleep in seconds, but now it was the opposite. He was scared. His small figure was shaking with fright as he was trying to resist the urge to break out into tears. The tears were coming already, but he didn't want to actually make the noise to go with it for fear of what would come next. All that could be heard for a few minutes was his light sniffles. This was Feliciano though, it should have been expected he wouldn't be able to keep in his feelings. It was never the boy's strong point.
Not knowing what else to do, the younger Vargas rolled over so he could see Lovino. He looked like he was sleeping in Feliciano's eyes. Maybe he was awake, but he couldn't tell. Facing a grumpy brother would be far better than dealing with a monster with fangs and scales and --oh, those thoughts were too frightening!
"L...Lovino I'm scared." He clung onto his brother's nightshirt with slightly wet hands from his tears. Though he has tried his best to whisper, Feliciano was never good at being quiet, especially when upset. As one could guess, it wasn't working out for him. His body was still shaking a little, so it was clear he wasn't lying. "I don't want to be eaten. Make it go away. Please?" That was what big brothers were for, right?

| Lovino was starting to regret his decision to scare his brother more and more. No sooner had he closed his eyes and started to drift slowly back to sleep that Feliciano was clinging to him and whining quietly in his ear. Lovino groaned and opened his eyes slightly, tugging himself away from the younger boy’s wet hands. Grumpily, he rolled further away from him, but knowing the pestering would not stop until he at least responded to his brother, he turned around to give him a frown.
“I told you, it’ll go away if you’re quiet,” he said in a low voice. “Don’t be such a baby.”
He debated telling Feliciano the truth- that there were no monsters and that he had just made the whole thing up, but Lovino didn’t like to admit it when he had lied, and by now, it seemed that Feliciano was too spooked not to spend the rest of the night clinging to him anyway…Besides, there was always a chance that what Lovino said had been true. What if there really were monsters? The older brother was wise enough to know that creepy things were always out in the dark. The only way to make them go away was not to be afraid of them.
“Listen,” he growled, “I’m not going to let anything get you, so just go back to sleep, okay?”
He was met with the expected whining, but he supposed he couldn’t expect much different from someone who was a whole year younger than him. Reluctantly, he reached out and took his brother’s hand to comfort him. He’d just hold onto it until the younger boy fell asleep, he decided. Then he could put some distance between them and finally sleep in peace. Lovino started to get drowsy again very quickly, though, and before he knew it, he was nodding off with Feliciano’s fingers still lightly enclosed in the palm of his own hand.
The small prince was nearly back in the land of dreams and giant tomatoes when suddenly, he heard a noise. It was small at first, nothing loud enough to do more than stir him in his sleep, but steadily, it grew louder, and the sound of something creaking caused Lovino to open his eyes slightly, annoyed. And then there was a scream.
Lovino jumped violently, squeezing Feliciano’s hand that he had forgotten he was even holding and looking around him in a panic. The scream had come from one of his nurses. It had echoed through the nursery and suddenly been cut short, and as Lovino turned his head and squinted in the dark to try to make sense of the scene before him, he suddenly found himself unable to move. There was a stranger standing there, a tall heavily cloaked man who was hovering over his nurse’s bed. In his hand was the silhouette of a knife and from the tip, something dripped down to the floor. There were another scream on the other side of the room, and Lovino’s small heart thumped wildly in his chest at the realization that there was more than one stranger here. He whimpered and wrapped his arms around Feliciano, his whole body trembling as he wished so badly that he could turn invisible so that the bad people wouldn’t be able to see him. He jerked the covers back up over their heads and lay there, silent and still.
“Those wenches were too loud,” a gruff voice murmured to his partner. “The guards may have heard. Hurry, let’s make this quick.”
Lovino could hear shuffling coming from the direction of his abandoned bed as the covers were torn from it and one of the strangers grunted in annoyance.
“There’s no brat sleeping here. Check the other bed.”
The older prince squirmed in panic as suddenly, heavy footsteps rushed towards him, and the protective blanket was ripped hastily away. Lovino screamed at the darkened figure in terror, and at once, a hand came down to slap his face. Having never been hit before in his short life, the seven-year-old quickly went silent.
“Shut up, you little bastard, or I’ll kill you just like your nanny.”
Lovino shook, making small noises as he cried. He didn’t want to die! He had just been kidding about those monster stories, dammit! He hadn’t ever meant for them to come true! This all had to be some nightmare. Just some stupid, horrifying dream. If he closed his eyes and wished hard enough, it’d go away, right? He had to try. Still holding Feliciano, the prince skewed his eyes shut and sobbed, willing himself to wake up with all his might, but he was interrupted as a hand reached out to grab him by the back of his nightshirt, pulling him up off the bed and wrenching him away from his brother.
“This is the elder, right? The heir? Should we kill the other one or take them both?”
“We only need one hostage…”
Lovino snapped out of his stunned state and began to squirm violently, landing a small kick on his captor.
“Don’t you dare touch him, bastards! PAPA! PAPAAAAA!”
He was struck again, this time harder. Lovino almost choked on something as one of his loose teeth was knocked out. He spit it onto the ground and resumed his struggling, but the man holding him had pinned his arms to his sides and lifted him so that his legs couldn’t reach the floor, much less a body. Lovino looked back at his brother’s bed in panic. Please! Please don’t kill him…
“The king will be out for revenge if we spill his son’s blood,” the man holding him grunted. “Grab the brat. We can ask for double the ransom…Just be quick about it!”

| His brother's words were not comforting to Feliciano in the least. Clearly he didn't understand that he was trying to be as quiet as possible. This was a difficult task for him in general, never mind when he was tired and scared. It was basically asking for a miracle from the boy. "O-okay..." That was all he managed to squeak out, not wanting to upset Lovino further. They might both be extremely young, but even at his age he noticed his big brother's bad temper. He was very sad that the older boy had decided to scoot away from him, because it left him feeling even more alone than before without another person's warmth next to him.
"I guess I can try again." he said, trying to keep quiet still, showing his agreement to his brother's words with tiny nods into his pillow. When he felt the familiar feeling of his hand around his own, Feliciano felt a bit better. Sure it wasn't the same as being snuggled up against one another like he normally enjoyed when he was able to sleep with Lovino or their father, but it would do. The small gesture reassured him that he wasn't alone in the dark with whatever scary monsters were lurking out there that Lovino had spoken of. He didn't say it out loud since he was supposed to be staying quiet, but he thought his brother was very brave right now. Lovino didn't even look the least bit frightened and he was the one who had found the monster.
Though he often fell asleep rather fast and he was already exhausted, it took him longer than normal this night. Though it was a bit hard to see his brother's sleeping form in detail in the darkness of the room, he could tell that Lovino was already almost asleep since he was so quiet. Maybe it was just a lucky guess, or the fact that Lovino always seemed to like to talk to him in his own special way. His brother's eyes were closed and nothing horrible was happening to them, so he tried to tell himself that it meant he could shut his own eyes and everything would be alright. Feliciano closed his own eyes again now that everything was settled down again, but he refused to let go of his brother's hand and he snuggled into the blankets to get comfortable.
The boy was a lot more tired than he had originally thought, and it only took seconds for him to actually fall back asleep again. That was just how sleepy children worked. Feliciano was no exception to this rule no matter how frightened he had been of being eaten by a big scary monster only moments previously. When he was exhausted like he was at the current moment at time, he didn't sleep lightly. His body wanted to stay asleep. Though he wasn't having any dreams like before his brother had woken him up the first time, Feliciano was still fast asleep once more. He was dead to the world at the moment. It would have been nice if he were able to stay in this state for more than a few minutes, but given the current circumstances it would have been impossible for even the heaviest of sleepers.
Feliciano wasn't sure what woke him up first -- the scream or the sudden increase in pressure on the hand that Lovino had been holding onto before he had drifted off to sleep. Perhaps it was a mixture of both, but either way it was an unpleasant awakening. His eyes shot open and he let out a yelp. First he looked to the source of the pain in his hand, which was of course his brother. Lovino already seemed to be awake which didn't surprise him. He looked distracted, and at first the younger of the two was too confused over what was going on to realize what he was looking at. Perhaps it was best that he didn't snap out of the initial confusion of the situation until moments before the second scream took place. Feliciano had only gotten the smallest glimpse of the scene in the dark unfolding in front of him. His brain was unable to really process it and he found himself frozen there. For once in his life, he didn't really know what to say. The only thing that managed to come out was a small whimper of fear to match his brothers, but he hadn't really even heard Lovino.
At least it seemed that Lovino had some sort of plan of what to do. Feliciano found himself in his brother's shaky arms and under the blankets. That was when the tears started coming. Everything about this was too much for him to handle, and seeing his brother this scared didn't help the situation any. Feliciano wasn't deaf. He could tell that there were two strange men outside the barrier of blankets that the elder prince had created between the two of them and the two men. He had seen what had just happened, and that alone was enough so make him start to choke up again. All he could do in his current position was cling to his brother as hard as he could. "L-Lovino..." he didn't even know what he wanted to say right now. Even if he could have said something more than the other boy's name, he really had no other words. Feliciano didn't receive an answer from him, and for good reason. His brother was oddly silent. On the other hand, Feliciano couldn't help but fidget from being frightened which was not helping the two of them.
He could still hear talking from the two intruders. The other bed...they were coming to his bed. As quick as this was all happening, suddenly the only thing protecting the brothers from everything else in the room was ripped away. Feliciano let out a frightened shriek, though maybe at the moment he was the luckier of the two princes. Only one man had come over, and it seemed that since Lovino was closer he was the only one who was hit for the action. Seeing this also reduced Feliciano to simply crying for the moment. They were still so close to one another that even though he wasn't hit, he swore he could feel his brother's pain simply from the noise it made. Still, all he could do was hold into him.
Soon though, that was yanked away from him too. With his only source of any small sense of comfort now gone, Feliciano was more panicked than ever. "Lovino! Come back!" Any cries of resistance or grabbing after his brother were useless. "Let him go!!" He saw the other stranger come over to the bed, and he couldn't help but back away from the two of them in fear even if they currently had Lovino. His mind was clouded with so many different emotions that he didn't fully process everything that was being said as the two men looked at him and spoke. What he did understand though was nothing good. All he could do was sit there and cry while mumbling frantic apologies for absolutely no reason. They wanted to kill him. He was going to end up like the nurses. More than anything, he wanted their father to come in and save them both right now.
It seemed that Lovino had the same idea. His brother's struggles and cries for their father triggered something inside him. It was the urge to run. He wanted to run away from this horrible scene in their room and get their father. He was the king, he could fix anything and certainly get rid of these bad men.
Though Lovino was obviously in a bit of pain from that, it gave his little brother a small opportunity to do what he wanted. Feliciano was not seen as a threat by intruders, and they were momentarily distracted. He was always a lucky boy, but luck could only take him so far in life. Feliciano used this moment to try to run for it. He didn't even wait until they were done talking about their final plans for the double ransom. It didn't matter how fast he was on his feet though, his actions were noticed before he was even halfway to the exit.
"Hey, he is trying to get away!"
The sinking feeling returned in his stomach again with these words. The man's legs were longer, and seconds later he was roughly picked up. This only made him cry and struggle harder. "PAPA! PAPA HELP!" He still had his father on his mind. "Let me go!!" All his protests were not helpful. Feliciano was small for his age and not particularly strong. It didn't take much effort for the man to hold him so he was unable to kick and hit. In a panic to run away again, Feliciano did the only thing he could think of without his arms and legs. He bit the man's arm as hard has he could. In return, he got a grunt of pain and a fist to the head. That was enough of a shock to make him stop. Like his brother, he had never been hit before, never mind hit that hard. He stopped his protests for the most part, groaning in pain as he heard the man who had hit him cursing to himself.
"The little shit bit me! This better be worth keeping both of them in the end." It was obvious that this part of the intruder's words were directed to his companion. "It still isn't too late to kill you. We don't really need you. Keep that in mind." That was obviously directed to Feliciano, and the coldness of the man's words cut through any other feelings he had. This man wasn't lying...and that only made Feliciano cry more than before. With his eyes full of tears and a throbbing head, he looked over to his brother finally. He looked just as defeated as Feliciano, but he still couldn't help but mumble "Lovino...help...", unsure if it was even heard by his older brother.
"Let's just get them outside. Someone will be here soon with all this commotion." He could hear two two men still talking to one another.. "We have to be fast or all this will be a waste."
((Am I the only one that remembers that tiny!Feliciano was actually feisty when he was young? Beating up Turkey and such ahaha....and that little temper! Just in case you are wondering why he would actually bite some guy. Since everyone seems to forget his feistyness when he was younger....though it didn't really work here. ;____; Also this is the first time I used a naughty word in a roleplay post. Gosh, the things I do for you fratello! Hehee. No really I suck at being a mean bad guy...and I didn't know when to cut off so I did randomly okay I will shut up bye 8D))

| Lovino had really been hoping his brother would get away. As soon as Feliciano started running, his heart thumped with hope that the younger boy would get out of the room and go get help. It was no use, though. Even though his brother was faster than a lot of other children Lovino knew, he was no match for an adult. The bad man snatched him up too easily. Lovino sobbed, unable to see much as his brother put up a fight and wincing when he heard the thump of the man hitting him. He heard Feliciano mumble something, but could barely make out the words through his own crying. No one was allowed to hurt his brother, dammit! Who did these strangers think they were?! Everyone knew that princes were special. No one had the right to even lay a finger on them! Lovino was so used to being spoiled and treated with respect, that this new situation both baffled and terrified him. It was like all the power he had from being part of the royal family had been stripped away. These men were breaking all the rules.
“You can’t do this!” he squeaked. “I’m a prince! You have to do what I tell you or else! Let me go or my papa will punish you, dammit!”
It was the best threat he could manage in his timid state. He winced, expecting to be hit again, but the man holding him only laughed slightly.
“Your papa’s not coming, brat. You two are our hostages now, and unless the king does what we tell him, he’s not getting you back. And if you keep trying to put up a fight…we’ll send you back to him in pieces. How does that sound?”
The prince whimpered. To further intimidate the boy, the man showed him the knife in his other hand. Even in the low light, Lovino could tell that there was blood on it. His nurse’s blood- the one who used to feed him and read him stories and tuck him into bed…The closest person Lovino had to a mother was gone. The little prince trembled and began to sob quietly. He was still in shock and not fully able to grasp the concept of what was happening- the nurses were dead, he and his brother were prisoners, his papa wasn’t going to come and save them…It wasn’t until the kidnappers started carrying him off that he realized he was about to lose his home too. They were being taken towards the window, and Lovino was afraid he was going to be thrown out of it until he saw the rope hanging down the side of the wall. So that was how they had gotten in…
Lovino gasped as he was thrown unceremoniously over the man’s shoulder and carried down the side of the wall. He closed his eyes tightly, terrified of how high up they were and praying the man wouldn’t drop him. He didn’t dare open his eyes again until they had made it onto solid ground again. The elder prince blinked in the darkness, trying to spot his brother and make sure he was okay. He didn’t want to be separated from Feliciano. No matter what, they had to stay together so they could be rescued together too. He wiggled slightly in the kidnapper’s grip but was tussled roughly in response and told to be still. The stranger carried him past the castle gates, slipping quietly among the shadows and avoiding the sight of all the posted guards and the ones who were running around, searching for them. The prince could hear the shouts of the men nearby as they sounded the alarm, and the kidnappers grew more desperate to get out as they began to run faster. Lovino longed to shout out and let the guards know where he was, but he knew if he did, he’d be hurt, so there was nothing he could do except bury his face in his hands and cry quietly into them.
Then, they were outside the last wall. Lovino wished he hadn’t been so frightened so he could appreciate being out here where his father rarely allowed him and his brother to venture unless they were traveling in a large caravan. Just as they reached the fields surrounding the castle grounds, a carriage suddenly came up in front of them. At first, Lovino’s heart leapt with joy, thinking that one of his father’s men had come to save them, but the man driving the carriage was no one he knew. Instead, it appeared to be the kidnappers’ friend.
“Get in,” he grunted as the men hurried towards the door. “Disguise the royal whelps and prepare to travel to the transfer point.”
Lovino was tossed onto the carriage seat and heard the door shut behind him. His only comfort was that Feliciano was soon thrown beside him. Immediately, the older brother took him into his arms and held him against him protectively. His body was trembling, but he had to try to be brave. He was sure Feli was even more frightened than he was, but if that was true, then it was more than he could imagine. He could never remember being more afraid in his life.
“’M sorry…” he muttered into his brother’s ear though he wasn’t sure what he was apologizing for. It wasn’t his fault they had been taken. He had never meant for his monster stories to be true, but they had come true anyway, and now the danger that he and his brother were in was very real. What would happen to them? Would their father get them back safely? Or would they end up like their nannies at the end of those knives? Lovino didn’t want to think too much about their fate. He just wished he had been able to spare Feliciano from it somehow.
(I leave the disguising of the whelps to you, Fratellino! And I love your feisty Chibitalia! Keep up the awesome work~ XD)
