(continued from Rome, Italy)

January 12th
Location: Vatican City

Character: Romano
Status: Uninfected

Romano was at Saint Peter's Square literally in minutes. The roads had been completely empty on the way here, meaning his citizens were either too scared to go outside anymore or they had already fled. Romano had raced here as fast as he could, going further over the speed limit than he ever had before, but it wasn't as if there was anyone around to care. Even the polizia were nowhere to be found. But Vatican City was not entirely quiet. As Romano came to the border of this holy place, he could see a few darkened figures looming nearby. The Italian watched them warily, keeping the engine of his red Ferarri running as they approached the large circle of columns surrounding the Basilica.

He couldn't tell if the figures were normal humans or not. For now, he'd just have to play it safe. Looking past them, he could see that the area within the circle of columns was completely empty. Whatever these things were, they didn't seem to be entering the holy place.

"Maybe this really is the safest spot in the world right now," he mumbled to the old man, though he wasn't entirely convinced.

Then, he saw something that truly shocked him. One of the figures dropped suddenly a few others were trembling and scurrying away from the Basilica as quickly as possible. Lovino turned off the car and watched them. Now he could see why no one had come. Fuck, even a normal human might stay away if they saw someone they knew drop dead from just being near this place. The infected could not survive here, but there had to be some humans who had realized they were safe as long as they were not one of them. They were just hiding somewhere further inside, Romano reasoned. And if Veneziano was here, that was where he'd have to be.

"Come on, old man. We're getting out," he said, unbuckling his seatbelt and grabbing his guns as well as half of the supplies.

They'd be alright once they were inside. After all, neither of them was infected, right?

January 12th

Status: Mild-Infection

Rome clung to the seat of the car as they sped down the empty streets at break neck speeds. As the scenery blurred past them he saw no one, not a single person or creature at all. Up ahead he saw the structure come into view before them, the Vatican. A place where he had expected to see more people fleeing towards, unless the worst case scenario of it not being safe was true. Yet those figures whom where looming, and lumbering outside the columns were not going in. Sitting up right more once the car stopped Rome's golden eyes studied the figures.
"What on earth?" He said to himself and then gasped almost as one figure dropped. Rome's eyes got wide and he then looked over at Romano. The young man had said it is perhaps the safest place on earth, complete truth. Rome could not help but nod in agreement to that statement, and then unbuckled his seat belt as well opening the car door carefully. The man took quick glances around to make sure nothing was going to sneak upon them.

"Romano, did you not see that thing drop? I think infected people get killed before they can even enter here!I ...I can't go in you know that, I was bit." Rome stopped short of going towards the columns. There was no feasible way he could go in there safely. Which meant he would have to part ways with Romano here, now? The man did not want to leave his grandson behind though, and not be there to protect him while they went to search for Veneziano.

"If he is not in there come back out all right, and we will keep looking. If he is in there....then I will not be able to follow in." The Roman reminded Romano.

Status: Uninfected, as of yet.

He shouldn't have came here. Shouldn't have left home. Shouldn't have left his son's side. Stupidity got the best of him and drove him to leave Germany with his son, leave the safeness of his home. Travel to Florence, Italy, and then stupidity took over his conscience again. Going to the Vatican, where Veneziano said Roma might have been. This was his second stop in his 'quest' to find his lover, though, the first having been Rome, the city, itself.

Chaos was what the city was in. Dead, animated and not, all over. The bodies of those who were shot strewn across the streets. The beautiful, ancient looking city looked morbid with the blood splattered about the collumns, innards decorating the beautiful sidewalks. Absolutely atrocious. He wanted to vomit, to go back home, never should have come here- alone at that. But alas, Germania's stupidity had gotten the best of him.

Thankfully there were weapons, nice ones at that, and ammunition for the few firearms he had found. His hair was in a ponytail, the once silken, platinum blond strands now looking matted and more dirty blond than platinum. Oh how he needed a bath. His look, thankfully, was the worst thing about him. He still smelled pleasantly, in all due thanks to the scrub and soap he had found in one of the cities. Running water was hard to find. Clean water was an even bigger challenge. When he had finally felt safe enough to actually sit, he fetched some water and brought it with him. He made a fire in the home he was residing in at the time, boiled the water so that it would be clean, and then started to handwash his entire body. He had attempted to clean his hair, but the damage was too much. He needed a nice shampoo and conditioner to help with that rat's nest.

That had all happened a night prior to where he was now. The outskirts of the Vatican. Germania looked around the place, feeling his heart tug in his chest. Such beauty, ruined. It was sad. It was like he had entered a different universe, a horrible universe that those who were in need of an extreme punishment were sent after death.. No one should have to live like this. It was devastating that not only the humans, but the countries themselves were prone to infection. Absolutely dreadful. Countries.. Gilbert, Ludwig, he hoped they were alright. He couldn't even bgein to imagine the pain he would feel if his sons had fallen to the virus that turned one into a crazed, bloodthirsty being.

Clearing his thougts, Germania looked around. It was quiet, an eery quiet that made ones hairs stand on the back of their neck.. Looking around, Germania drew his gun and kept his finger on the trigger, moving towards the city. He looked around, on edge, as he made his way towards the columsn. There seemed to be a large group of the infected crowding around one place. From what he learned, that meant life. And life meant people. Living people.. Feeling a sudden surge of hope, Germania skirted the edges of the group, making sure to keep upwind from the creatures. Why weren't they going inside, past the columns? He asked himself. Then he saw a car, a old looking one at that, with two people inside. Well, the hope of life being inside the city was gone, but that car wasn't there a moment ago, so Germania watched the car, waiting for whomever it was that was inside to come out.

Silently, he prayed that it was someone he knew.

Rome told me to do it last nighttt. D=

Romano exited the car and began to walk, but the old man’s words stopped him. He knew Rome had been injured, but he had never fully thought about what the true gravity of the situation could be. He hadn’t wanted to. If his grandfather really was infected, he could end up as more of a danger to Romano than an aide to him. The Italian didn’t want to believe that the man who had left him all those centuries ago and who had only just come back was doomed to die again. He couldn’t leave him, dammit!

“You’re not fucking infected, old man!” he shouted at him, trembling. “You’re not…You can’t be!”

He wanted to punch the bastard. He wanted to make him take back all that bullshit and just come with him to find his brother. But Lovino knew he was just in denial. He was terrified of being alone, of being abandoned. He wouldn’t let the old man walk out on him now. Not again.

Romano turned away from him in distress. He couldn’t stay here while Veneziano was possibly waiting for him inside. But how could he desert his own grandfather? What if he left him out here and then never saw him again? The Italian wavered, unsure about what to do when he noticed someone approaching them. He took out his gun readily, but hesitated. There was something strange about this man, and Romano felt like he should know him, but his memory was blanking on whether or not they had ever met before. He stared at the man with the long blonde hair and moved closer to his grandfather subconsciously as he continued to hold the gun tightly in his grip. Romano waited quietly, wondering if Rome would recognize the stranger. He could sense that he was probably one of their kind at least.
