| He was being ignored. Obviously so. It irked Gilbert immensely, and he shifted, narrowing eyes, before locking his gaze on the bottle. His face scrunched up, and he almost rolled his eyes at the other's mention of books. Books, books, books. Gilbert knew he was supposed to be reading and learning, so both of them could go their seperate ways, but reading English was such a headache, and it was so hard to focus on the words. He just couldn't bring himself to do it, really. Especially not as tense as he was now.
Sinking down further in his seat, Gilbert crossed his arms, and tried not to feel like the sulking child he appeared to be. This sucked. So much of his life as a vampire sucked, but at the moment, he felt very much that this was the worse thing to happen since the realization that he couldn't go home. What was he supposed to do with himself now?
After a few more turns of the wizard's pages, Gilbert pushed himself up and snatched the bottle of whiskey. He couldn't get drunk off it, sure, and he'd likely get himself beaten or worse for this... but what like was there if he couldn't even get a minor buzz? He took a long swig off the bottle, letting the burning liquid wash away the taste of vodka, and burn it's way through his body.

| If he thought that Gilbert would eventually get bored with being ignored and walk away, he was wrong. The vampire's tendency to hover won out again, as so, apparently, did his need to make an obnoxious arse of himself. When the liquor bottle was snatched, Arthur raised narrowed eyes and watched as the vampire downed a good portion of the bottle. It wasn't even the loss of the whiskey that bothered Arthur so much as the almost certain knowledge that Gilbert was doing it specifically to annoy him.
Giving the vampire a hard stare, Arthur uncrossed his legs, and then crossed them again the other way, tuning in his seat just enough to face the vampire slightly more. He knew the best move would probably be to continue ignoring Gilbert's cry for attention, but the wizard was a little buzzed, and that made him more inclined to open his mouth.
"Are you really so desperate to be drunk? Can you not find other outlets for your self destruction?" He gave a shooing motion with his hand. "Go gorge yourself on blood or bed whores, or get into fights. Something that does not come at the expense of my best whiskey. And pointlessly so, I might add."

| He didn't let go of the bottle, even as he set it back on the table in front of him. Nor did he miss the way the other moved, or the angry tone in Arthur's voice. He arched a brow at him, and grinned at the way the other waved his hand. Really, was he a mouse? Kese.
Gilbert licked his lips, and arched a brow, as he shifted in his own seat, hand slipping from the bottle. He moved to sit sideways in the chair, legs thrown over one armrest, back against the other, and arched his back slightly, head falling back. "You want me to go out and pick fights?"
That was an amusing thought. He knew his physical strength was far greater than any human's. He couldn't lose a fight with a mortal, not now, not like he once would have. He was too strong, too fast for a human to be a challenge. It almost made him as sad as the inability to get drunk off his ass.
Turning his head to look at Arthur, he arched a brow, "So touchy, it's not like I drank all of it."

| The wizard sighed and barely resisted the impulse to roll his eyes, which instead he now trained back onto his book. "You miss the point entirely..." he muttered, shifting away from the vampire into a more natural position again. He did not like the way that Gilbert lounged on his furniture, or the way he seemed to think he was an equal, that he was entitled to Arthur's things. It was disrespectful.
Arthur drained the last of his whiskey from his cup and set it down beside him, turning the page on his book again. "Fact of the matter is, I don't give a good God damned what you do, so long as it does not interfere with me and my business. Go act like the infant creature you are, draw attention to yourself, get yourself killed when something bigger and badder happens across. I don't care in the slightest. But the curiousity you inspire is quickly being overcome by my irritation with you. So perhaps there could be better uses of your time, hm?"

| Gilbert grinned a little. He knew all of this, but some part of him deep down was hurt. It was stupid, and childish, to think that the wizard should care in any way, shape or form, what Gilbert did long as he didn't cause a mess. He knew, logically, that Arthur was being very generous to Gilbert, letting him stay at the house, and read from his books, when Gilbert was alone and had nothing, and Arthur clearly had things to do.
But some part of him, that tiny little part of him that had suffered greatly after being abandoned, that part of him that was meant to latch onto his maker, and create the bond that would have held up in some way for the rest of eternity, wanted badly for Arthur to fill this role. It needed someone to latch onto, and though Gilbert did his best to push it aside, like he had before Arthur found him, it left the vampire with irrational bouts of anxiety and anger.
Rolling his head to stare off to the side, Gilbert glared at the far wall, as if it held answers he couldn't think of. The more time he spent with Arthur, the harder it was to not feel like he was being scolded. The more part of him wanted to leave and not come back, so that thing that latched onto the wizard could be pushed aside and ignored, so he could run and hide like he'd done from his father all those nights they'd fought over stupid little things.
"Tch. Right, of course. Better uses." He glared a little harder, fisted his hands in his hoodie, and clenched his jaw, eyes never wavering from the wall.

| He did not raise his eyes from his book, but sensed Gilbert's irritation, drawing satisfaction from it. It was about time the vampire got a taste of his own medicine. Arthur had a cruel, sharp tongue, and a special knack for finding the most hurtful things to say that would cut the deepest. Since he hardly knew Gilbert at all, it was more difficult. But he felt that now he had found that sore spot and it gave him further edge.
He did not know why he would rather irritate the vampire than simply kick him out and be done with it. Heaven help him, he had grown used to Gilbert's presence over the last few weeks, but he ought to have reached his limit by now. The game's amusement value should not have been enough to tolerate this. So why, with the next full moon approaching and another chance at making his potion at hand, did he not just send Gilbert on his way? He'd given the vampire more time than either had likely expected. And if that time was squandered, then it surely was not Arthur's fault.
But despite all his better logic, it was more jeering rather than a banishment that left his lips. "It was a rare act of charity that caused me to invite you here. After your pathetic attempt to hunt me, I should have put you down. You show amazingly little gratitude."

| Trying hard to curb the anger that was swelling, Gilbert ground his teeth together, and swung his legs off the armrest to straighten his position. It was true, Gilbert didn't show a great deal of gratitude to the wizard for what he done. The albino had never been very good at saying thank you, but he'd done so once or twice to Arthur, he had hoped that was enough. Clearly not.
Standing up, Gilbert picked the bottle up again and took a long drag off it. Just to be spiteful, he took another, and didn't put the bottle down, kept hold of it by the neck. One thing he'd learned back home, was that it was generally a good idea to keep hold of somethng that could be used defensively. He could overpower the wizard physically, but old habits die hard, and he was still a bgit afraid of the man.
"I'm so sorry, what would you like me to do to show my undying gratitude?" His voice came out sickly sweet, and obviously mocking the other, "Just what do you expect me to do?"

| He very intentionally did not look up, though he could sense Gilbert's anger rising, and took his stance as a threat. Which would be very, very foolish on the vampire's part, if he chose to act on it. Even if his wand was not in hand, Arthur was not helpless. His wand was a conduit for his magic, not the source of it. It would likely come with some collateral damage and added energy on his part, but he could defend himself if he needed to. Even with Gilbert's speed and strength, the wizard held the advantage. And he was not forgiving if his charity was met with aggression.
He showed no reaction to the vampire, maintaining his calm composure and relaxed position, idly licking his thumb and turning the page of his book. Gilbert was an attention seeker. Arthur had known this for some time now. He was not going to encourage or reward the vampire's behavior by giving him exactly what he was seeking. And he absolutely refused to be intimidated.
He chuckled a bit at the vampire's questions. "Undying, hm? Interesting choice of words. Was that a joke?" He laughed again, but did not raise his eyes from the words on the page. "Mmm, I don't know," the wizard continued, his voice smooth. He could have been have a conversation over tea rather than with an angry vampire. "How much gratitude do you think your life is worth? Well, existence, not life." Another page turn. He was getting to the good part of the novel. "Proper respect for myself, my home, and my things would be a nice place to start though, if I were to make a suggestion."

| He wasn't sure what was worse, the fact that the wizard didn't even look up at him, the obivious fact that he didn't acknowledge Gilbert could be a threat, or that even Gilbert knew he wasn't a threat to the wizard. His pride could only take so much, and it wasn't handling this very well. It didn't help that part of him craved the other's attention, worse then he wanted to feel drunk. He couldn't tell if it was the man's blood that kept him so attached, but it was driving him up the wall.
"You know what," Gilbert tossed the bottle lightly, switching his hold to the base of the bottle, "Fuck you, und your shit."
As if to make his point, he flung the bottle with a flick of his wrist, smashing the bottle against the wall beyond the wizard. It wasn't until the smell of the whiskey permeated the room that Gilbert realized that was likely a really bad idea. He took a hesitant step back, eyes flickering to the door, before locking on the wizard, his stance going defiant and certain, though he nearly trembled inside.

| He was rather content in the advantage he held and lorded over the fact. More than anything else, Arthur valued power and authority. Though Gilbert fought whenever Arthur tried to display either, the difference in their strengths was clearly being displayed now.
He really should have known that further rebellion was coming, but that fact did not quell his rapidly growing fury at the sound of breaking glass. His eyes rose sharply from his book at last, landing upon the dark wet spot on his wall and the shattered bottle at the base of it. The smell of his expensive whiskey rising thick into the air. There was no maintaining composure now. He was pissed at this blatant display of disrespect. He closed his book with a slam and shoved it between himself and the chair before rising to his feet and turning to the vampire, rage set in his eyes.
He should kill him. Gilbert deserved it and had been getting more than enough chances, squandering them all. Arthur's fingers itched to grab his wand out of his coat, which was draped over the chair. But he didn't. The reason why he didn't escaped him, and though his anger was palpable, he spared Gilbert again. For the moment.
"You clean up every shard of that glass and every drop of that liquor, or get your pasty, undead, ungrateful arse out of this house!"

| He could feel the fear creep into him, taking sharp hold as the wizard stood up. Gilbert felt his body go tense, forced himself not to back away, and just keeping from shaking. He was fucked, ad he was well aware of it. Jaw clenched, and eyes narrowed, he glanced at the bottle's remains.
He hadn't read enough of the book to really feel comfortable. But staying now, it seemed like the more idiotic choice. If he'd been home, he would have been in a yelling match with his father by now, and would have stormed out and gone to sleep on Elizaveta's couch. But this wasn't home, and Arthur's anger was colder, more cruel, yet less resentful, then his Vater's.
Feeling that leaving, running from this fight would be the most logical choice, Gilbert took half a step back, "Screw you."
His voice came out less shakey then he thought it would, and he took a full step back as he spoke, already targeting the door as his escape, and getting ready to bolt.

| So Gilbert was choosing to run away rather than own up. Predictable. But somehow this made Arthur angrier. Not because he had to clean it up himself, because that could be accomplished easily enough with magic. Maybe it was because Gilbert was leaving... and both knew he wasn't ready for it. The past weeks of tolerating the vampire's presence so that he could learn to survive would be absolutely wasted. He was going out unprepared anyway. Would likely be killed within a year.
Hmph. If that was what Gilbert wanted.
His face twitched a bit in his rising anger and suddenly he felt as if Gilbert was not moving fast enough. He wasn't suffering enough for this decision. Such a stupid move on his part should come with more immediate consequences. The wizard sneered threateningly, taking a step forward himself, and as the vampire began to move, he shouted "Your invitation is revoked!"

| The step Arthur took cause Gilbert to take another, more quickly. He was turning to make a run for the door when the shout came and the pressure slammed into Gilbert. He gasped, and just barely kept on his feet, the pain that surged through him knocking him off kilter for a moment. He grabbed at his chest, then rushed towards the door, almost falling again as he managed to get outside.
As soon as he was out the door, the pressure, the physical pain disappeared, leaving him shaken and gasping as he moved off the front steps. Shooting a nasty glare back at the house, already knowing that he was going to regret his decision, and left. Being fully fed, it was not hard to pick up his speed, and set his mind to the task of finding a place to spend the day.
He ended up spending the night in one of the old warehouses he'd used back before Arthur had found him. Gilbert managed to spend a few days hiding out, and avoiding the wizard's home, before the lonliness got to be too much. First he went home, watching from a distance, checking up on his brother and father, then found himself returning to the long road that led back to the wizard's home.
He knew an apology would be needed if he wanted to be let back in. He couuldn't see himself saying it alloud, couldn't fight off the pettiness that claimed he shouldn't even be lurking here, that he didn't need the wizard, long enough to do so. He stole a bottle of whiskey, the same brand as the bottle he'd broken, and brought it with him while he lurked in a tree not too far from the wizard's house, intent on using it as a peace offering.

| He had actually not expected the reaction to the revoking of the invitation to be as intense as it was, nearly knocking Gilbert to the ground. Still... it felt justified. The vampire had practically been asking for it. Arthur followed him as far as the door, shot one last glare at him, then slammed it shut.
The next few days were almost unbearably quiet. Arthur found himself having a hard time staying on task and focusing on what he was supposed to be doing. His thoughts turned to the vampire a lot, though he quickly forced them away as soon as he noticed. He did not want to dwell on that. It was over and done and it had been a long time coming. Gilbert was just a failed experiment. That was all.
Arthur was even having trouble focusing on the potion he was set to be making. For a month he had blamed Gilbert for ruining his first attempt, and now another full moon was upon him and he had yet to prepare for it. Several of the ingredients he had gathered for the last time were no longer fresh enough to be used, and thus would have to be replaced. But Arthur had not yet found the will to do so. It was so odd... he had been used to his unchanging solitude, and in just a short time, Gilbert had ruined that.
He had not even left his house since the other had left, but he had reached the point where he could put it off no longer. The full moon was the next night.
He was still on a nocturnal sleeping pattern, so it was evening before he awoke. He dressed and headed outside to his garden with a small shovel, a knife, and his satchel. It was the first time he'd breathed the outside air in days. It was dark, and the light from his kitchen window only offered so much. He pulled out his wand and muttered a short incantation, and a small ball of golden light appeared, hovering in the air and casting light over the garden. It was not as good as working by daylight, but it was good enough. He got to his knees and began digging for roots.

| He spotted the wizard finally coming outside, and stayed in his tree for a bit longer. Working up the nerve to acctually go down to talk to the wizard. Gilbert passed the bottle back and forth between his hands. Slowly, almost reluctantly, he climbed out of the tree. He worked hard to be as quiet as possible.
He was more grungy looking then he'd been since he had started staying with Arthur. He was clean, mostly, his clothes grass stained, oil and dirt, and something suspiciously dark staining his jeans. His hood pulled up, and keeping his hair from being so noticeable in the dark. He crossed the yard, stopping at what he deemed was a safe distance away. He knew he couldn't really expect to be safe where he was, but he was at least out of range of the sword.
He held the bottle loosely in one hand, letting it hang by his leg. His other hand stuffed into his hoodie pocket. Pressing his lips together, he tried not to fidget as he waited to be acknowledged.

| He'd only been working in the garden for a few minutes when he sensed the vampire. He resisted the very strong urge to look up, but he knew that Gilbert was getting closer, moving far too slowly to be attacking and too quickly to merely be lurking. He was surprised that Gilbert had the gall to return after last time. For all he knew, Arthur would kill him on sight. The vampire had blown all his chances, and Arthur had no reason to give him another one.
Arthur did not reach for his wand though. His hands were kept busy cutting roots away from the soil. Gilbert was getting closer and Arthur had not yet decided on how to greet him, though a frown was setting on his face without his real notice.
Soon, the vampire was too close to ignore any longer, and Arthur lifted his head. Gilbert was standing several yards away, his clothes dirty and most of his features hidden by his hoodie. He looked rather worse than the last time Arthur had saw him, which was something, since the vampire had been reeling in pain the last time. His eyes traveled over the vampire, eventually coming to rest on the whiskey bottle. It was easily recognized as being of the same brand as the one Gilbert had broken. Arthur did not really know what to make of this. It was really too pricey to be the sort of thing Gilbert would use in his experiments to get drunk on his own, but then it was probably stolen anyway. Perhaps the vampire had developed a taste for it, as little sense as that made. The idea that it was some sort of apology did not even cross Arthur's mind. The very idea was almost foreign to him.
The frown remained on his face as he stared Gilbert down. He wouldn't admit even to himself that he had been... lonley, for lack of a better word... since Gilbert had left. Though perhaps bored was the better term. Yes, that was more acceptable. But he would show no sign of welcome. He refused to. The silence was deafening, but finally he broke it.
"Hmph. Well you are looking worse for wear. "

| The way the wizard stared at him, Gilbert was almost certain that Arthur was going to pull out his wand and finally just kill the vampire. He wouldn't have been particularly surprised if Arthur had. But the wizard made no move to do so, and Gilbert took it as a sign that he was doiing okay.
He reached up to push his hood off, and offered a grin, "Sleeping in a warehouse has that effect, ja?"
Hesitating for a moment, he shifted his weight a bit nervously. He couldn't forget the fear he'd felt when he pissed Arthur off before having his invitation revoked. Slowly, Gilbert lifted the bottle up, and held it out for Arthur to take it. His gaze shifted, head tilted so he could look off to the side and wouldn't have to make eye contact as he made his apology, "Here... to replace the one I broke."

| As soon as the hoodie was dropped, that familiar shit eating grin was there. The wizard couldn't help but sneer at the sight of it. So cocky, even after all this. One would think it would have taught the vampire some humility.
But the offer of the fresh bottle of whiskey caught him completely off guard. He tried to understand the motivation behind it. Was Gilbert just trying to redeem himself a bit so that Arthur wouldn't look for revenge beyond kicking him out? Or was Gilbert trying to get back in Arthur's good graces so that he would be allowed to return? Had these few short days reminded him that he was really not ready to be on his own? Or... was this honest guilt and a real apology? That just... didn't seem likely.
He blinked a few times, staring at the offered bottle, and then up at Gilbert, raising a brow. For once, he didn't know what to say or how to respond. Not used to finding himself in this predicament, he was quick to lower his eyes again, cutting the root free and stuffing it into his satchel. "Hmmm... What inspired you to do that?"

| At the question, Gilbert lowered the bottle again, and licked his lips, trying to think of an answer. He didn't quite know how to deal with having to explain his motives; he'd genuinely hoped that Arthur would just take the bottle and that would be the end of it.
He shrugged his shoulders, still refused to look at the other, "Dunno."
If he'd still been able to, he likely would have blushed a little. Embarassed to admit, even to himself, how sorry he was he'd picked that fight and how much he wanted back into the house. He hadn't really had to apologize to anyone in so long, that doing so now felt weird.
"Do you want it or not?" He meant it to come out snarky, but his voice sounded somehow weak and quiet, even to his own ears.

| Gilbert's behavior really left him confused. If it was a peace offering, why didn't he just say so? If he wanted another chance, why didn't he just ask instead of leaving Arthur to guess at his motivation? More of that cocky, arrogant pride, no doubt... But that tone did not sound arrogant. It sounded meek. It sounded regretful. Those traits, possessed by someone returning to him, struck him as hard to ignore and strangely desired. He did not seek to explain why he felt this way. But it made the vampire harder to ignore.
Arthur dusted his hands against each other to clear them of dirt, and stood, turning to face Gilbert, his own expression stony and unreadable. "I'll take it off your hands," he muttered. "But I strongly suspect that your only reason for bringing it here is because you realized you are not ready to be out on your own again. You're hoping that I'll pardon you and let you come back to the relative safety of my home, aren't you? I can tell you now, I will tolerate no further destructiveness in my home."

| Gilbert gave a small nod. He wasn't just back because he wasn't ready to be on his own. When he'd left the part of him that had craved the man's attention had become blaringly painful and aggravating. He couldn't bare to be alone, and no mattter how many humans he surrounded himself with, it didn't ease it. The raves and parties, the bars, were fun, but they weren't enough.
He shifted his weight again, stuffing his one hand back into his pocket, "I'll keep all destructiveness to myself."
It was a promise, albeit a weak one. Gilbert couldn't stand the idea of being left alone, and if promising to be good would let him back into the house, he could do that. Sorta. He'd at least try. "I'll.... be good."

| Frankly, Arthur was stunned that Gilbert complied so readily with nary a snide remark or tone of sarcasm. He was thrown by it and was silent for a few moments, unsure of how to respond. Perhaps Gilbert's time on his own had been rougher than the wizard had expected to send him back here so soon and with such humility. There was no reason for him to give the vampire another chance, but then, there had been no reason to give him that first chance either.
Arthur pursed his lips and let out a small sigh, as if even he could not believe the words about to come out of his mouth as he turned and headed back towards the house. "You can come back. I permit you entrance to my home once more. Bring the whiskey inside with you."
He did not look back, though he was curious to see Gilbert's reaction. It was more important to hid his own, though. He needed a moment to be sure that confusion and self doubt were clear from his features.

| Rather surprised, and very glad Arthur was giving him this second chance, Gilbert turned to follow him into the house. He kept a safe distance at all times, keeping his gaze on the other as they headed back towards the house. Hesitating as they reached the front door, Gilbert lingered back.
He'd grown used to needing to be invited in. That was normal, but he'd never been reinvited in, and part of him was afraid to find out it wouldn't work. Swinging the whiskey bottle a little, he eyed the doorway as if it were the bane of his existence, and very slowly finally moved forward to pass through, into the house. As he stepped in, his eyes squeezed tight and his body tensed, getting ready for the pain he remembered from before. It wasn't there though.
Heaving a sigh of relief, Gilbert opened his eyes, and let his gaze sweep over the room. Nothing had changed in the week he'd been away. It was familiar, and somewhat safe feeling to him. He didn't think he wanted to dwell on the fact that the wizards home had so quickly, and easily become more comfortable then his home with his family had ever been.

| Over the next week, things had slipped back into roughly the same pattern as before. Though Gilbert cautiously kept his distance from Arthur at first, he was back to hovering fairly quickly. The wizard showed all the same irritation at the fact that he did before, though he was less inclined to get especially irate or relocate himself (which was pointless anyway as the vampire always followed him). He refused to admit or even consider the possibility that he had missed the vampire during his absence. He was not a person who was susceptible to loneliness after all. But as much as he hated to think it, he was growing used to Gilbert's presence. So much so that he sometimes found it harder to concentrate on his work when the vampire was out hunting or entertaining himself. Though he always complained about it, it almost seemed now that the vampire belonged there. Arthur had even stopped nagging about Gilbert's lack of progress in reading the books on vampirism. Well, mostly. Here and there, Gilbert's idleness annoyed him to the point where he felt the need to remind him that there were things he should be doing. He still used the threat that he had his own plans and once he was ready to act on them, Gilbert would not be tagging along. But here he was, night before the full moon, potion all set to go, and he was still hesitant to set a date for the vampire to be on his own. If all went well, Arthur would be leaving to find his stolen property in a matter of days. Seemed such a short time now that it was here.
Though he was not feeling especially focused (Gilbert was out hunting again) Arthur forced himself to get to work preparing the last of the ingredients for the potion. He harvested from his garden again, washed the herbs, and prepared them for the next night. It probably was best that he work on these things while the vampire was away. They required a delicate hand after all. He had to carefully cut the lens from a bat's eye and juice the flowers from a foxglove plant. After a few hours of working, he seemed to have found his rhythm, and set to work on the most challenging of his chores. He washed a large, twisted, ugly root that he had dug up from his garden and set it before him at the table in his basement, carefully beginning to skin it.

| It wasn't hard to fall back into a routine once he was back at Arthur's. he woke up in the evenings, went out to feed most nights, but the time spent in the house was very predictiable. He did put an effort into not following the wizard around, and tried to spend a little more time reading the books. He just couldn't felt his focus slipping whenever he spent too long staring at the words. He found he could read it more easily when Arthur wasn't in hearing range, so he felt safersounding the words out as he went. He still wasn't very far in the books though.
He expanded his hunting grounds, moving further from the wizards home, moving up higher. It was becoming obvious that the more of his supernatural abilities he used, the less time he could wait between feedings. The longer travels were zapping him a lot quicker, but they were making it easier to avoid aggravating the wizard more then need be.
By the end of the week, Gilbert found a comforting schedule to go by. He came back fairly late, with a few hours away from sunrise, and enough time to get some reading done and maybe lurk around the wizard for a while. The house appeared empty when he first entered it, but with a little focus and the use of his senses, he could track the wizard down to the basement.
Gilbert shrugged his hoodie off and left it on the armchair, before heading down stairs. His skin was a bit flushed from his recent feeding, most of the grimy look he'd had the week prior gone thanks to the use of the wizard's shower, and a few new clothes he'd 'picked up' a few nights ago. Not bothering to hide his presence, Gilbert hopped down the last few stairs, landing lightly, took one sweeping glance of the basement, then made his way over to the bookshelf.
He paused half way there, catching sight of the twisted thing the Wizard was working on, "The fuck is that?"
